Power is a modern day TV
drama which consist of many different camera angles and movements to show the
characters full emotions and gestures.
I will be focusing on the
first 5 minutes of season 4 episode 10 because I feel they’re a lot of key
parts to analyse. This episode starts off with a flash back of previous scenes
with the use of non –diegetic sound to build tension and the beat gets louder
as the tension rises. The next part is the
iconic theme song used in power which is “50 cent – big rich
town” because the lyrics in this song talks about having to make money anyway
possible and being brought up in a poor place which is very much linked to
power because that is the main story in power.
The scenes starts off with
Tyreke being interviewed by the police about the fatal death of his little
sister Reanna, in this scene a shoulder shot is used to get full emotional and
facial expressions out of him whilst this is happening, it then goes into a
shot reverse shot when Ghost intervenes in the interview and we are introduced
to the use of props as Ghost has fake blood on his face which gives us the impression
that Ghost is an aggressive character that gets himself into a lot of fights.
It then goes into a wide shot showing all the characters present in the scene,
Tyreke is asked a question about what he remembers on the night his sisters was
killed and he chooses not to tell the interviewer what he saw, there is then a
few seconds of silence and in that few seconds the tensions rises as Ghost, the
interviewer and Tasha are all looking at Tyreke waiting for him to response.
